What to Expect From Your Contact Lens Exam

  • Regular eye exam

    During your comprehensive eye exam your optometrist will check that your eyes are healthy and will test your vision to determine your contact lens prescription.

  • Contact lens consultation

    During your contact lens exam your optometrist will check for dry eye symptoms and consult with you to determine what type of contact lenses are the best fit for your lifestyle and vision needs.

  • Contact lens fitting

    For ideal vision correction and comfort, contact lenses must fit well. Your optometrist will examine the size and shape of your cornea and pupil to ensure the right fit.

  • Contact lens trial and follow-up

    Your optometrist will insert trial lenses and ask you to keep them on for 15-20 minutes to be sure the fit is comfortable and vision is clear. After a few days, you'll come in for a follow-up evaluation.

Can dry eye sufferers wear contact lenses?

Usually, yes. While some types of contact lenses can aggravate symptoms of dry eye syndrome, such as eye dryness, redness and irritation, other contacts are perfectly suitable for dry eyes. Speak with an eye doctor near you regarding your dry eye symptoms, and they'll prescribe the perfect contact lenses for ultimate comfort.

Can a child wear contact lenses?

It's a case-by-case basis. Typically, eye doctors don’t prescribe contacts to children under the age of 11 or 12, though there are exceptions. Wearing contact lenses requires responsible care, including cleaning and disinfecting routines. Most teenagers can handle contact lens care if they’re motivated to wear contacts.

Do I need an eye exam and prescription for tinted contact lenses?

Yes! Even if you’re just using contacts to change the color of your eyes, you still need an eye exam and a prescription. Contact lenses are a medical device and require fitting by an eye doctor.

Hands down the best I have ever been to! They absolutely know what they are doing and even took real... images of my eyes to make sure that they were healthy almost like an x-ray. Never seen that before in any other doctor's office. Very quick very knowledgeable and very informative. Clear communication! My last visit of visionworks at the Vancouver Mall set me on the hunt for a new doctor and found everything I was looking for and more here 🙏

I've been going to Advanced Eye Care for over a decade now, ever since I learned my eyes are bad. Th... ey're run pretty well and they have good customer service which has been consistent over the years. Building is clean and well-kept. They have some really nice eyeglasses selections in their shop that can be affordable with the right insurance, and they have cheaper options as well. The doctors seem to know what they are doing and can explain what's going on with your eyes that sounds patient and not scary. I've changed insurance a few times and already moved to another state but I don't want to let go of this place.

Very glad I found my new go to eye clinic. Dr. Drew was thorough and listened to all my concerns. ... The man of the hour was Tai who helped me picked out my glasses. After meeting Tai, I now understand there are levels to this game and Tai has achieved the highest level. Tai knows all there is to know about finding the perfect pair. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with a friendly smile and atmosphere that puts you at ea... se. Pretesting with Dona is pleasant. All the Dr’s in the office are friendly, and genuinely care about your eye health. Then there is Tai…he knows his stuff about hooking you up with the right frames and lenses for all your needs and knowing how to use your insurance benefits to the max. Overall a great experience! I took my teenage daughter to Advanced Eye Care to get prescription eye glasses. Both the manager, T... ai Hua and the front desk receptionist were very friendly and warm. Tai helped us. He was professional and knowledgeable. My daughter took her time to pick out two glasses. Tai was patient in helping her pick out the right ones. It was Friday and almost closing time and he did not rush us at all. I really appreciate how well we were treated. We will definitely be back for eye exams and glasses.
